Handmade Jewelry, It Just Feels Right

You've got to admit, there’s something special about handmade jewelry. There is a story behind each piece that has been so lovingly created by the artisans's own hands, not from a factory that mass produces pieces.  What makes each handmade piece special are the little imperfections and the fact that someone put time, care, and their heart and soul into making it.  Each piece is unique just like each one of us. No two pieces or people are exactly alike. Think of each piece as a small piece of wearable art. Because of the all of reasons mentioned above, it makes you feel a little bit more connected to the piece.  As an artisan, I can tell you that we put everything into what we do and it gives me great satisfaction when I can support other small artists and craftspeople by purchasing from them. So, next time you want to treat yourself or buy a gift, consider buying from a small business. They'll be forever grateful and you'll feel a sense of pride knowing that you suppor...

Pearls, Timeless Jewelry For Every Occasion

Have you ever thought of how your pearl necklace came to be? Today's blog will be about how Natural, Cultured, Freshwater Pearls and Mother of Pearls are created.   Pearls are actually made because the oyster is protecting itself from an irritant. A broken piece of shell, any foreign material, a parasite for a natural pearl invades the oyster or a bead is placed inside the oyster for cultured pearls. The irritant gets between the oyster's shell and body and starts the process. The oyster secretes layers of the same materials that make up it's shell. It creates a material called nacre, which surrounds the irritant and protects the oyster from damage.  Let's discuss different types of pearls and how they are created.  Natural Pearls A natural pearl is formed as it suggests, in nature, without human interference. A foreign material "invades" the oyster. It secretes a protective substance called nacre, a combination of crystalline and organic substances that build...
